Alyssia has spent her professional career working in special education both as a teacher and as a Special Education Advocate. Alyssia is passionate about forging relationships with students and families that build a sense of confidence and enable them to grow as learners. Prior to joining Belkowitz Law, PLLC, in August 2022, Alyssia worked as an Advocate Supervisor and Special Education Advocate for a law firm in Washington, D.C. Alyssia has more than fifteen years classroom teaching experience, most recently in Loudoun County Public Schools. She worked with a variety of exceptionalities, including Autism, Intellectual Disabilities, Emotional Disabilities, and Specific Learning Disabilities.
Alyssia assists families with all aspects of the special education process, including initial eligibility for special education, development of the Individualized Education Program (the “IEP”), school placement, and IEP implementation. Alyssia also provides guidance and coaching to parents on interpretation of educational assessments and strategies to effectively and collaboratively work with the school to meet the unique needs of their child with special needs.
Alyssia attended Iona College, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. Alyssia was awarded a Masters of Education from California University of Pennsylvania. Her Masters Degree focused on students with mental and physical disabilities.
Alyssia and her husband, Mike, live in Prince William County with their two dogs. She loves to be active (running, biking, walking) and also enjoys gardening and reading.
